CVDLINK: Laying the basis for data-driven solutions for cardiovascular care in Europe
Since its kick-off in January 2024, the CVDLINK project embarked on a journey to unlock data-driven solutions for cardiovascular care in Europe. Initiating fundamental activities in the realm of data management and sustainable exploitability of the research project’s work, the CVDLINK consortium reached its first milestone and laid the groundwork for forthcoming research efforts and the definition of technical requirements.
Marking the end of the first semester of the CVDLINK project on unlocking data-driven solutions for cardiovascular care, the project consortium looks back on the accomplishments of its first milestone and completes the phase at CVDLINK’s first progress meeting in Finland in June 2024.
Visual identity, data management and primary efforts towards sustainable project outcomes
Initial project efforts were shaped by the creation of the CVDLINK visual identity, the definition of security and privacy requirements relevant for the elaboration of a data management plan, as well as the implementation of preliminary research activities in preparation of CVDLINK’s exploitation strategy.
Laying the groundwork for the long-term endeavour of creating sustainable visibility and exploitability of CVDLINK and its outcomes, the project’s visual identity, including a logo, colour palette and initial templates, was created in a collaborative effort and decision-making process of the CVDLINK consortium. To sustain this work and thereby the objective of developing exploitable results a data management plan was elaborated and an exploitation plan set up. The development of the exploitation plan was led by SYNYO and structurally defines the exploitation strategy, identifies key exploitable results and outlines steps for future sustainability of the project outcomes. Both deliverables will be updated throughout the project duration and provide fundamental guidance for requirements and impact analyses of CVDLINK solutions.
Concluding the first six months of CVDLINK at the progress meeting in Tampere
CVDLINK’s first project meeting was held at Tampere University in Finland and included the active participation of all 19 consortium partners. The two-day event marked a valuable opportunity to share knowledge and streamline efforts to achieve project objectives.
During the meeting, CVDLINK consortium partners explored a diverse range of subjects, such as the project’s strategies to ethical and secure data management, plans for upcoming clinical trials, updates from ethical committees, and progress on analysing the challenges that impede data sharing. Furthermore, progress updates of ongoing research efforts were provided and pathways to enhance the project’s visibility and connectivity with varied stakeholder communities were outlined.
The plenary meeting moreover included a series of workshops. Exemplary topics of these workshops covered the selection of suitable AI methods for the final integration into the CVDLINK system and led to discussions on federated learning, machine learning vs. deep learning, as well as the use of distinguished system architectures. Another workshop addressed data interoperability and security requirements, while a third one laid the groundwork for planning the objectives of co-creation and participatory design activities to be carried out within the project.
Lastly, the CVDLINK progress meeting marked the kick-off of several forthcoming research and technical activities – such as the work on the CVDLINK federated and FAIR repository and the legal framework for data sharing, joint ownership, use and re-use – which will shape the upcoming months of the project.
